In this interactive performance-based project, viewers were asked to pick a ticket out of a bowl. The ticket had a random object on it. Viewers were then blindfolded, escorted into a studio room, placed in front of a tarp, and asked to draw their object blind. Once complete, the viewer would be escorted out of the room and un-blindfolded. Different pen colors were used to differentiate different persons. This project was intended to highlight a power struggle between those that are in power and those that are not.
To further engage the viewer, I decided to create a 3-D interactive art piece. The 5 wood letters, which spell out SMILE, are a sort of journal about 5 sections of my life: School, Love, Work, Social, and Family. I decided to be very raw with content, not holding back and writing down all the bad things that happen in all 5 sections. To interact with the piece, the viewer can take the supplied smiley face stickers and cover up the writing. Viewer can choose to color coordinate, create patterns, or just be completely random with their stickers. The stickers represent how even though we all have bad things going on in our lives, we can put up a mask and attempt to forget these issues. On the contrary, the stickers represent that happiness can help us overcome these issues, and that positivity will ultimately prevail.
